Frequently asked questions.

  • Can anyone join?  Mostly ~ Reenactment can be a physicaly demanding hobby. Members are expected to help setup, maintain and breakdown a display during public shows. KSK also participate in the public battles. Members with a health condition are requested to make this known incase of medical emergencies.
  • What are the requirements to joining? KSK have members throughout the united Kingdom and are not located in any specific area. It's important that you are able to travel to and from events whilst also bringing any uniforms, equipment etc you need. Owning a vehicle is extremely valued in this respect.  Members are expected to attend as many shows as viable during the year and many plan their family and holiday requirements around this.
  • Is the hobby expensive? Yes! Reenactment isn’t a cheap hobby, but there are plenty of ways to get uniforms and equipment at reduced prices. Some vendors offer discounts if they know you're in KSK. Members also have "loaner" gear and items they no longer need, which can be purchased for much less.
  • Will I need a tent/zelt? Ideally, yes. This adds to the display and enables you to camp on the display and enjoy the social aspects of the hobby after the public have gone. Not all public shows offer public camping spaces.
  • Do KSK offer rank and awards?Certainly! At KSK, members can earn awards and rise in rank based on their contributions and involvement with the group. Promotions are achieved by showing a willingness to take on responsibilities and demonstrating aptitude in specific areas. Awards are given for attending shows, participating in battles, and being recognized for services to the group.
  • Do I need a weapon ? Yes ~ KSK portray a frontline unit. Therefore Grenadiers are armed. You do not need a Section 1 license as there are alternatives available. Denix manufacture real imitation firearms and GSG produce a UK legal MP40. These can be purchased with a "Valid Defence" ~ I.E membership of a reenactment / Living History group. Many shows will have a licenced armourer onsite and with pre-booking you may also hire a firearm.
  • What theatre do KSK portray? Most reenactment groups focus on the D-Day and Normandy operations, but KSK stands out as something different. We proudly center our portrayal on the Eastern (Ost) front, showcasing a Regimental HQ after the Battle of Kursk. Our Grenadiers wear the Feldgrau uniforms typical up to mid-1943. Occasionally, we depict the Leibstandarte in Italy and only sometimes the battles in France.
  • Is there anything else I should know? Probably ! Feel free to contact us via the form below.
